Occupy Oakland is a series of camps in certain places of oakland because the people that were protesting felt like they were being oppressed. This is an example of economy because some protests was because of how much money people were making. This story happened in Oakland on October 10, 2011.

When Oscar Grant wason a bart when he was in a fight  then the police brung him and oscar grant’s friends off the bart train. Johannes Mehserle put Oscar on the ground and put his knee on his back johannes said he was resisting arrest so he shot him in the back. That is and example of institutional oppression because he is using his power to try to get away with murder. This incident  happened at 2:09 on New Years day 2009 at Fruitvale Bart Station.

Out of all the pictures on the wall i would want to learn more about the one that says afropunk fest because i never heard about that and i see a lot of black people with afros and it has words I don’t know like ableism, ageism, fatphobia, homophobia and transphobia.

Assignment #9 Oppression Essay

Oppressed people means unjust treatment to certain people. An example of system of oppression is the kim crow laws during segregation. In other words it is system of oppression means a certain way of doing something but still oppression people. .An example of a  level of oppression is when systems use their power to oppress people like when the government use force to tell people what to do. That is a example of political oppression. So it’s basically using you power to advantage and to make people hurt more. Oppressed people experience oppression through systems and levels is by being forced to do things and people that is oppressing them and people of power behind they back. Just like the Jim Crow laws they were being oppressed but so many people with power liked that they felt overpowered and even worse the police was using those laws to there advantage and would take any opportunity to use that power to oppress more people.

First,  oppressed people experience oppression through systems and levels is by being forced to do things and people that is oppressing them and people of power behind they back. Just like the Jim Crow laws they were being oppressed but so many people with power liked that they felt overpowered and even worse the police was using those laws to there advantage and would take any opportunity to use that power to oppress more people. A document that can support my claim is when the girls in the Middle East girls was getting treated unfairly and getting hurt for going to school. Instead of the girls just stop going school(as a way of protesting) with alot of people they keep going and not fightback and then they keep losing lives over it. I got this information from a article on the Internet called CNN.com made by Allie Torgan on March 17,2016 “There were at least 185 documented attacks on schools and hospitals in Afghanistan last year, according to the United Nations. The majority were attributed to armed groups opposed to girls’ education”. Based on the document it was 185 attacks on schools and hospitals on young girls and they haven’t done anything to stop the oppression.

Lastly, oppressed people experience oppression through systems and levels is by being forced to do things and people that is oppressing them and people of power behind they back. Just like the Jim Crow laws they were being oppressed but so many people with power liked that they felt overpowered and even worse the police was using those laws to there advantage and would take any opportunity to use that power to oppress more people. One of the documents that we analyzed is a quote  from the New York times called Woman Linked to 1955 Emmett Till Murder Tells Historian Her Claims Were False” written by  Richard Perez~Pena on January  27,2017

Assignment #8

In the first place people with power are able to marginalized and exploit people by making people feel not as good as other races. They can use this power to oppress people that don’t have privilege and power. The Europeans with power came over and oppressed people, and killed people the the people(the people im talking about is the Native Americans)and the people couldn’t fight back because the Europeans killed to many that they got into the Native’s heads and took over so bad the Natives were giving up.That document is a book titled “In Defense of the Indians” written in 1521 by Bartolome De Las Casas. “During these 11 years more than 2 million souls gave perished and only 2 thousand survivors are to be seen and this number is shrinking day by days”. Because instead of the Natives trying to gather and get strength in numbers they didn’t try to fight back even if the Europeans weapons were stronger the 2 million or more people that died could have easily took out Columbus and his men, but the Natives saw so many people dying because the Europeans weapons were so advanced they didn’t even think the fight back they just gave up.

Next ,people with power are able to marginalized and exploit people by making people feel not as good as other races.  On the FHA maps they have areas that rate the neighborhoods for insurance, they have green areas (suburbs) and the red areas (projects) that have a majority of black people living there..This document was made by a news website called The Atlantic titled “The case for Reparations” by Ta-Nahesi Coates written in June 2014.In document #6 it says that “On the maps, green areas, rated “A” indicated “in demand” neighborhoods that,as one appraiser put it, did not have “a single foreigner or Negro”. These neighborhoods were considered excellent prospects for insurance.Neighborhoods where black people lived rated “D” and were usually considered ineligible for FHA Insurance. They were colored in red.”.This reveals that the FHA are marginalizing the African American because they aren’t giving them good housing and no insurance.

Lastly, people with power are able to marginalized and exploit people by making people feel not as good as other races. In 1529 a seventeen year old Aztec Scribe records his impressions of a Sacrifice Ritual that happened in Tenochtitlan. On this ritual they gave a prisoner food and treated him as god just to end up killing them. I think that this showed the Tenochtitlan people was exploiting him to use them as their ritual .

Assignment #5

Identity is how you describe you have that are chosen and assigned.A dominant narrative is when someone with privilege and power make a story for you and a counter narrative is when people that doesn’t have a voice come together and tell they own story.Because the dominant narrative could be racist or have negative stereotype

First a dominant narrative is is when someone with privilege and power make a story for you.It affects me because a lot of people in the world might believe the negative stereotypes and perceive me different when they see me or other people that looks like me. It is a picture of a gang member and he is holding a gun, a durag on, chains on, and a white beater on.It is a example of a dominant narrative because that is how people with privilege and power describe african american people.
